Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam

I am posting some photos from Amsterdam’s Botanical Garden, a lovely place. One of the special attractions is its Butterfly House, where the butterflies of many different types could fly free in a large greenhouse with coffee plants and sugar cane plants and many other kinds of plants. Orange slices and sugar water are sat out for the butterflies to enjoy, and they sure seem to enjoy them! The butterfly with eyespots is called an Owl butterfly from what I saw and read on the internet. We really enjoyed being there.

Rose after a summer rainfall

Taken last summer after a rainfall–reminds me of one of your recent posts……Been doing taxes and haven’t had a lot of time to work with my new camera. But I like it so far–it’s quick and the auto focus works well.

This is the store close to where we live. It always has such nice cut flowers and plants for sale during the spring and summer.

A rose by any other name

Ordered a new camera today from Pixmania–a Canon EOS 550D. A present to myself–have saved up the money and decided to go for it. I should get it in about four or five days. Looking forward to learning to use it and I think the quality of close-up photos will be better than I’m used to.

Roses growing in our yard

Roses growing in our yard last summer. They are hardy flowers–lasting well into November. I think they are so beautiful and I love the fact that they don’t just give up and die when the cold comes.
